We carry Selkirk Ultra-Temp 4-inch insulated chimney components for these applications.

Selkirk’s Ultra-Temp all-fuel chimney is listed to UL 103 Type HT in 4-inch through 8-inch sizes. The insulated construction helps maintain chimney temperature and draft while allowing the system to pass through properly designed building penetrations when installed according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Why Insulated 4 Inch Chimney Pipe Matters

A chimney works because hot exhaust rises and creates draft.

Therefore, maintaining chimney temperature can play an important role in keeping that draft working properly.

Insulated chimney pipe helps limit heat loss as exhaust travels through colder areas or outside the structure. This becomes especially important with small stoves because they do not produce the same exhaust volume as a large residential wood stove.

You need the correct transition when moving from single-wall connector pipe to insulated chimney.

Our 4 Inch HT Pipe Adapter provides that connection.

A typical configuration might start with single-wall pipe above the stove. The pipe then reaches the transition point and connects through the HT adapter to insulated Class A chimney.

The exact layout depends on the stove, structure, roof, wall location, clearances, and applicable installation requirements.

4 Inch Stove Pipe for the Caboose Tiny Wood Stove

The Caboose Tiny Wood Stove is designed around a 4-inch chimney system.

For residential installations, the Caboose requires a Class A wood-stove chimney system. Its exhaust system is designed for 4-inch HT UL-rated chimney pipe.

This compact chimney size makes sense for a stove designed to heat approximately 200 to 600 square feet.

The important point is that 4-inch does not mean ordinary tubing or any pipe with a 4-inch diameter. The chimney components still need to match the application and installation requirements.

4 Inch Stove Pipe for the Mini Me Non-Electric Pellet Stove

The Mini Me Non-Electric Pellet Stove also uses a 4-inch chimney system.

However, there is an important difference between the Mini Me and a conventional electric pellet stove.

Do not install the Mini Me using ordinary pellet vent.

The Mini Me does not have an electric exhaust blower pushing combustion gases through the vent. It operates using natural chimney draft.

Because of that design, the Mini Me must use 4-inch single-wall connector pipe and 4-inch Class A HT chimney according to its current installation requirements.

That distinction is extremely important.

Someone familiar with traditional electric pellet stoves might assume pellet vent should be used simply because the Mini Me burns pellets. That assumption does not apply here.

The Mini Me behaves more like a naturally drafted solid-fuel stove from the chimney’s perspective.

Through-the-Roof 4 Inch Stove Pipe Installations

A straight vertical chimney through the roof is one common installation approach.

The exact parts will depend on the structure, ceiling, attic, roof pitch, and total chimney height.

However, several components commonly appear in a through-the-roof system.

Ceiling Support

The chimney needs the proper support where the venting system transitions through the ceiling.

We carry the 4 Inch Black Ceiling Support.

Another option for certain installations is the 4 Inch Starter Box. The starter box includes an HT pipe adapter and can work in certain through-ceiling configurations.

Which option works best depends on the structure and desired installation layout.

Attic Insulation Shield

If the chimney passes through an open attic, insulation cannot simply pile against the chimney.

The 4 Inch Attic Insulation Shield helps keep blown-in or blanket insulation away from the chimney and its framed opening.

A properly designed chimney system maintains the required airspace around the insulated chimney.

Firestop Radiation Shield

Depending on the installation, a 4 Inch Firestop Radiation Shield may also form part of the penetration system.

An exterior vertical chimney needs support.

Do not treat structural supports as optional extras. They are part of the engineered chimney system.

Can You Use Regular Pellet Pipe With a 4 Inch Stove?

That depends entirely on the appliance.

Never choose a vent system based only on diameter.

A 4-inch pellet vent and a 4-inch Class A solid-fuel chimney are different products designed for different applications.

For example, the Flame Innovation Mini Me burns pellets, but its current instructions specifically require 4-inch single-wall pipe and 4-inch Class A HT chimney. Pellet pipe is not approved for the Mini Me installation.

Always follow the appliance’s listed installation requirements.

Can You Run Single-Wall 4 Inch Stove Pipe Through a Wall or Ceiling?

For the single-wall products we sell, no.

Our single-wall pipe is designed as interior connector pipe. Before the venting system passes through a wall or ceiling in a living structure, it must transition to the appropriate insulated chimney system.

That transition is one reason the 4 Inch HT Pipe Adapter is such an important part of many installations.

What Does Class A or HT Mean?

Class A is a common term used for factory-built insulated chimney designed for high-temperature solid-fuel applications.

The Selkirk Ultra-Temp chimney we carry is listed to UL 103 Type HT in applicable U.S. sizes, including 4-inch chimney.

Unlike ordinary single-wall connector pipe, this chimney uses an insulated double-wall construction.
